Third Race in the Swedish Castrol Racing Cup 2005 for classic Minis
The third race in this years 4 hours endurance race series, Castrol Racing Cup, for the classic Mini took place at the former Formula1 track, Anderstorp Raceway on June 12. 30 cars passed the scrutinizing but one vanished during qualification and another refused to start when it was time for race so finally 28 cars lined up on the grid.
The weather forecast predicted 80% chance/risk for rain. During practice the weather was quite good but this was soon to change. In time for the warm up lap it started to rain and the rain decided to stay with us for the rest of the day.
Since it started to rain shortly before race start all cars were on dry set up. From time to time the track was drowned by water resulting in aquaplaning which isnt that fun in speed around 100 miles/h.
The 1275cc class saw a tight fight between 3 teams, Miss Bean, Austin Powers and SSR. The class winning team at the last race, Austin Powers, was punished with a 4 minutes stop and go due to overtaking during yellow flag and was out of discussion for victory.
The 1000-class was dominated by Team Mini Minst from start to finish and they were also second over all.
After shorter or longer pit stops caused by flat tires, drowned ignition systems, head gaskets, clutch or gearbox problems all teams but four made it to the finish.
So finally after 4 hours in light rain, plain rain, pouring rain, no traction, understeering, aquaplaning and poor/no sight the SSR team took the victory 20 seconds ahead of Team Mini Minst with Comfort Racing (Sports class) in third.
